Transcendent Hero of Love

My name is Cassidy Williams. I am 15 years old and attend John Horn High School. My life is described as the archetype Transcendent Hero of Love. God, family, and friends help me through life everyday. My love is very strong for the people that come in my life and make an impact. I had an obstacle in my life that could of slowed me down, but I decided not to let it. Becoming diabetic isn't easy and it takes strength to overcome. With the support of my loved ones, I have not let it stand in the way of my dreams. Volleyball is my passion and I would be lost without it. I look forward to playing through high school and college. Friends are a huge part of my life. I have made many new friends this year and could not imagine my life without them. Family is really important to me as well. My parents encourage me to follow my dreams and live life to the fullest. God has helped me through all my obstacles and my faith is very strong!

The Quest

My quest in life is to become the best person I can be. I want to stay successful in high school and continue to play volleyball. After high school I plan to go to college and major in education. I want to become a kindergarten teacher just like my mom. After college I hope to get my career in teaching and have a family. My quest for life is realistic for my goals I have set in the past. I set my goals high and push myself to achieve them. I know obstacles will come my way, but learn from your mistakes and keep moving.

The Mentor

My mentor would be my older sister Carissa. She has taught me a lot and I look up to her. I would be lost without her. Even though she makes me mad most of the time, she also knows how to always make me laugh. We fight 247, but thats our love hate relationship. She keeps me on track with my life and helps me with school and volleyball. She taught me everything I know about sports and without her I do not know where I would be today. She is graduating this year and I know I have big shoes to fill. Even though she won't be here my next three years of high school, she has taught me what I need to know, and will be there when I need her. She always teaches me to make smart decisions and be smart with what I do. She says "learn from your mistakes, because you will make many." I love her a lot and could not ask for a better sister.

Threshold Guardians

My Threshold Guardians would be my parents. They have taught me so much and I don't know what I would do without them. We have our ups and downs, but who doesn't? Our family is really close and I am grateful for that. My mom has taught me a lot and is always there for me. She keeps me motivated and supports my dreams. She will never miss a volleyball game and is there cheering me on at everything I do. My dad is hilarious. He keeps me laughing constantly and always knows how to make my day. He also supports my dreams and is there to cheer me on. Anything I ask for I know he will say yes. I guess you can call me a daddy's girl! I couldn't ask for better parents!

Shadow

My shadow is a tricky subject to write about. I haven't had something necessarily tragic happen to me besides diabetes. I would definitely call that a shadow. My other shadow would be procrastination. I am the worst at waiting until the last minute to start things. I always put homework off and say I will do it later, but when I get to it I am already tired and ready to go to bed. The main problem is that I watch so much television. I know I need to work on starting projects early and doing my homework before 10 at night, but it is very hard for me.

Trickster

My trickster in my life would be Lauren Lopez! She makes me laugh every day! We are so rude to each other, but that is how our relationship is. I have known her since second grade and we have been friends ever since. We have every class together and I don't know what I would do without her. We have so many inside jokes and memories that can always make me smile. Without Lauren my life would of been totally different this year. If I need to laugh or smile I can just look at Lauren and know she will do something to make me laugh. She is Lauren, she is amazing, she is my trickster!

Loyal Companion

My loyal companion would be my best friend Promise. I met her this year, but we instantly became friends. My Freshman year in high school would be totally different without her. She makes me laugh every day! If anything is bothering me she is the first person I want to talk to. She is so easy to talk to and I know I can trust her with anything! We never fight, but always argue then laugh 20 seconds later. There are so many memories with her that make me laugh every time I think about them. We like to sing a lot, even though everyone knows we can't! I know she will always be there for me through whatever, and I will always be there for her. I don't know what I would do without her. She is my best friend and I love her!

Physical and Mental Strength

Volleyball is the physical and mental strength in my life. I give 100 percent everyday at practice. Volleyball helps you with more than just the sport, it also helps you in life. It teaches you to work hard and never give up in order to succed. Volleyball is my life. Without it I would be lost. It always keeps me busy, and has brought some amazing people in my life. The thing with volleyball is that it keeps me stressed 99% of the time. I know if I mess up someone will be watching, so it makes me nervous. Although volleyball helps me to stay motivated to keep up my grades, it also takes up most of my life. 7 am volleyball tournaments every weekend and practice until 10 on school nights can keep you very busy. The physical side of volleyball is different. You have to be in amazing shape to play volleyball at Horn. We dread our workouts everyday, but now they are making us stronger and better athletes. Without volleyball I would be lost.

My Obstacle

The biggest obstacle in my life would be being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. My life changed December of 2005. Being diabetic changed my life drastically. I have to check my blood sugar throughout the day, and give myself four to five shots a day. I have to be careful with what I eat and watch my blood sugar while working out. Being diabetic has also taught me to be more responsible by knowing I have to take care of myself. There is no cure for type 1 diabetes yet, so I will live with this for the rest of my life. Hopefully they will find a cure before that. I thought becoming diabetic would hold me back from many things, but I haven't stopped doing what I did before. Although it is very scary knowing you have to watch yourself while eating and playing sports.

Distractions

Distractions are a big part of my life. Even if they are my favorite past times, they usually slow me down. Television is the worst. Half my life is revolved around TV shows. I will watch TV until 10 at night, then decide to start my homework. I record at least 5 shows a night. My other distraction would be my cell phone. I got an iPhone for Christmas and I am constantly texting or on the internet. My phone is with me 247 and I do not know what I would do without it. My distractions are my favorite things to do, but I know they slow me down as well.

My Journeys

Going on vacation is my favorite thing to do! I have been on many different journeys and seen amazing places. My newest one that sticks out was the choir trip to New York City. I had never been to New York and was very excited to finally visit it. The trip was wonderful and packed with lots of activities that I will never forget. From Broadway shows to touring Liberty Island, it is definitely a trip that will be remembered. Traveling is very important to me and I want to visit so many places as I grow older.
